Creative Impulsion Group
Thursday, July 30th ~ 4pm to 6pm
Do you have an idea you’ve been wanting to bring into your life? Do you experience sabotaging your own great creative ideas? Statistics show that motivation is not so much the issue as is the lack of follow-through. Many personal changes can come from taking one small creative step; learning an instrument, creating a website, painting a canvas, emptying an attic, starting a business and so many more…
This new Creative gathering is about applying intention and expansion to your idea, no matter how small or ordinary, big or insane. It will be held once a month and is about supporting you in every way to lift your idea to the next level. You will be encouraged to present your idea to the group, to receive constructive support with your strategy for success and completion, to network, invite new ideas, and to be accountable with your project on an ongoing basis.
Hosting will shift to a different member each month, and the host will designate the monthly date, time and place, whether at their home or another locale. Gatherings will be 2 to 3 hours long, and potluck if indicated.
The first gathering will be hosted by Susie Alexander, Thursday July 30th from 4pm to 6pm down by the river parking lot at Truckee Regional park. There will be beverages – bring an appetizer to share; call Susie Alexander at 530-277-3669 if you have any questions!

Monoprinting with an Etching Press
Facilitated by Brooke Bishop
Introductory Class
Tuesday, July 14th ~ 9:30am to 3pm
Further Exploration Class*
Thursday, July 16th ~ 9:30am to 3pm
Brooke Bishop, lifelong artist, longtime Truckee resident and newly crowned President of the Board of Directors of Arts In Wellness is opening her home studio to a small group of students for this series of classes discovering the art of monoprinting.
Monoprinting/monotyping is a single impression made from a block/plate. Monoprints are known as the most painterly method among printmaking techniques. The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike. The beauty of the medium is also in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing media.
“I’m excited by this opportunity to share my experience, my studio, and my etching press with a few (maximum eight) artists of varying calibers, to facilitate their creation of monoprints/monotypes. I have explored monoprints for over 30 years, having a press, “The Beast” for 25 years. In this workshop we will explore using an 8”x10” zinc plate, a full pallet of etching inks, and archival printing paper. We will use two basic techniques. The first is a painterly approach, the second, a more graphic.
“The introductory session is about gaining some confidence with basic techniques of painting on a metal plate. We might create a “ghost” or two, a second impression taken from the plate which produces a faint replica of the original. We will use a still life, most likely fresh flowers and fabric.
“The second session will explore printing on top of your first image once or twice, altering your image slightly and printing again.  You could use my subject matter (flowers, fabric, etc.), or your own set up, picture, or imagination.” – Brooke Bishop
* Prerequisite: Attending introductory class or previous experience in monoprinting.
FEE:  $45 per session includes all art supplies. Register early and save! Only $80 for both classes if registered by July 1st.
LOCATION:  Olympic Heights, Truckee. Address and directions will be provided after registration.
Registration closes July 10th. Please send any questions to brookebishop@thegrid.net. For more information about the artist and her work visit brookebishopart.com

Winter Creative Group

Winter Creative Group
Arts In Wellness Winter 2015 Creative Group
Meets at For Goodness Sake
Thursdays, January 29th to April 23rd (no class February 26th)
9am to 11:30am
Facilitated by:
Erin Reading, PhD (c) in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness
The Arts In Wellness ongoing Creative Group is an ever expanding circle that began several years ago and has grown into an amazing active network of creatively empowered individuals. This winter’s Creative Group will explore our innate creativity by delving into the energies of the ten planetary archetypes. Sandwiched between an initial introductory class and a concluding integration class, each week will focus on readings, journaling, and exercises concerning a particular planetary archetype and its expression in one’s life.
Sessions begin with a fully confidential group “check-in” based on the week’s readings and reflections, followed by 1½ hours of creative application – writing, collaging, crafting, painting, etc. — related to the week’s planetary focus. Through their creative inquiry into the planetary patterns, individuals will also gain the skills to read their natal birth chart through an archetypal lens. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and explore one’s own divine creativity in a deeply supportive environment of self-discovery and authentic connection, playfulness and vulnerability, inspiration and grounding.
Supplies will be provided though you are welcome to bring your own. A suggested donation of $15 per session is welcome and scholarships are available. The group is limited to 12 people and closed after the second week; we ask that those who sign up are ready to commit to themselves and to the group by doing the readings and showing up each week.
To register, call For Goodness Sake at 530-550-8981 or email info@goodnesssake.org.

Two new Arts In Wellness Fall Creative Groups are now forming!
Truckee Creative Group
Meets at For Goodness Sake
Thursdays, October 9th to January 22nd
9am to 11:30am
Following ‘The Prosperous Heart’ by Julia Cameron
Facilitated by Susie Alexander, Arts In Wellness Founder & Executive Director
Kings Beach Creative Group
Meets at the Kings Beach Community House
Mondays, October 6th to December 22nd
6pm to 8:30pm
Following ‘The Artist’s Way’ by Julia Cameron
Facilitated by Jennifer Schiessl, Arts In Wellness Board Member
The Arts In Wellness ongoing Creative Group is an ever expanding circle that began several years ago and has grown into an amazing active network. This Fall we’re hosting two separate Creative Groups, one that meets in Truckee and one in Kings Beach.
Each Creative Group will be a 12 week session following one of Julia Cameron’s books:
  • The Truckee group will be using ‘The Prosperous Heart’
  • The Kings Beach group will be using ‘The Artist’s Way’
Each session will begin with a group “check-in” based on the reading, followed by 1.5 hours of creative application – writing, collaging, crafting and painting (you can also bring in your own ongoing project).
This is a wonderful opportunity to actually step into a meaningful world of authentic fullness through original creative expression and celebrate yourself as a creative Divine spirit. It is fun, inspiring and very connecting. Sharing during the “check-in” is confidential and in the interest of time and focus, supportive group affirmation kept to a minimum. The group is closed after the second week.
Supplies will be provided by the Arts In Wellness studio though you are welcome to bring your own. Each participant is responsible for purchase of the book and required reading of the chapters as the weeks unfold. Donations are welcome for studio supplies used, though no one is turned away. Suggested donation is $10 per session. Additional suggested reading: ‘Walking in This World’ by Julia Cameron.
  • The Truckee group will meet for 12 sessions beginning October 9th, with a break for the holidays on November 27th, December 18th and 25th, and January 1st
  • The Kings Beach group will meet for 12 consecutive weeks, beginning October 6th
